Renovations were funded by developer BXP and the MIT Investment Management Company in coordination with the Cambridge Redevelopment Authority. Since 2020, private development has invested about $60 million in the Kendall/MIT station, state officials said.

The Kendall/MIT Red Line station just got the kind of makeover most commuters only dream about. On Friday, June 26, 2026, city and state officials cut the ribbon on the fully rebuilt Kendall/MIT headhouses in Cambridge, officially wrapping up a years-long renovation that overhauled entrances, added new vertical circulation and topped the whole thing off with a public rooftop hangout dubbed the Urban Park Porch, complete with benches, greenery and a pickleball court.

Governor Maura Healey today joined the MBTA, BXP, MIT Investment Management Company (MITIMCO), the Cambridge Redevelopment Authority and local leaders to celebrate the completion of major improvements at Kendall/MIT Station on the Red Line.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday for the MBTA’s Kendall/MIT headhouses in Cambridge, which had been undergoing renovations for years.

The newly renovated Kendall/MIT outbound T station entrance opened Monday, April 20, after closing June 10, 2024.
