2400 Mass Ave

Since making a commitment to the City of Cambridge in 2021 to deliver affordable homeownership housing units, the CRA has sought creative ways to deliver housing in the competitive Cambridge market.

In 2023, the CRA released an RFP seeking opportunities to deliver affordable homeownership units, and entered into an agreement with North Cambridge Partners (NCP) to invest in the condo project planned at 2400 Mass Ave.

The CRA strongly supported the housing project and committed substantial funding to support its development. Unfortunately, the proposed project could not move forward in the current high-cost environment, as it could not attract the additional investment needed. Therefore, the CRA and NCP reached an agreement that would return the original investment to each project partner and place the property in CRA ownership for future housing development. The CRA closed on the land purchase in May 2026.

This summer, the CRA will start planning and gather community input to shape the priorities for a mixed-income housing project. In redesigning the site, the CRA plans to maintain an affordable homeownership element and ground floor retail.
